CENSUS run by Lockheed Martin
Submitted by Peace House on March 22, 2011 - 6:25am.The recent census was run by giant American arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin. Because of this several of us in the Peace House made a public stand about not filling it in ...namely Penny Walker, Dariush Sokolov, Beth Ash and Sarah Malka. There was a picture of Penny burning the form in the Coventry Telegraph on Wed 23rd March along with the reasons why. It may have been too late to stop it happening but we should bring pressure to bear on the British Government not to outsource its civic functions to such terrible companies.
What is Coventry Peace House?
Submitted by Peace House on October 17, 2010 - 6:01am.We are a housing co-operative and a peace and environment centre in a busy part of multi cultural Coventry. We have been here since January 1999 and combine campaigning on peace and environmental issues with practical projects such as our cycling centre and refugee support. We also have community space which others can use. We hold activity week-ends on he first full weekend of every month when we welcome volunteers - it's a great time to visit. For more information see About Us.
Help us with an ebook about Coventry and the Arms Trade
Submitted by Peace House on October 17, 2010 - 5:39am.We are putting together an ebook about arms making and selling in Coventry over the last 110 years. We welcome stories, statements, poems, pictures. Suggested chapters include local university involvement, the Lucas project, current manufacturing, Matrix Churchill, workers thoughts, protest, arms manufacturing and the blitz etc. As soon as we receive material we will start the book and make it available on this website and over the next 6 months will hopefully piece together the jigsaw which is so much a part of Coventry's living history. Use the contact page to submit. Thank You!

City of Sanctuary
Submitted by Peace House on January 21, 2010 - 2:48pm.We are part of a national grassroots movement to make cities more welcoming to asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants. We launched the quest here in Coventry in September 2008 and were delighted to be awarded the status of City of Sanctuary on March 2nd 2011. However it is an ongoing journey and we need to keep up the quest - particularly in the current financial climate when good organisations are closing and increasing poverty is accompanied by increasing racism.
Cycle Technicians and Bikes Needed
Submitted by Peace House on April 13, 2007 - 7:43pm.
Riders from the G8 bike ride outside Coventry Cycling Centre We are looking for keen cyclists who are good at cycle maintenance to help us at Coventry Cycling Centre which is based at the Peace House. People give us bikes they no longer need and we repair them and sell them on cheaply to local people. We have a great team of 5 volunteers but we need more! At the moment we are open most Tuesdays and every other Saturday morning, but we would like to be open longer. We have a good supply of donated bikes - they just need your expert hands! Please contact Penny on 02476 664616 if you are interested in joining the team. Our Campaign On Statelessness
Submitted by Peace House on February 19, 2007 - 6:06am.On June 18th 2008 we launched a book called 'Statelessness. the quiet torture of belonging nowhere ' In Britain there are thousands of people who are denied basic human rights and have been told to go back to their country but are unable to do so. They are criminalised by the system with many serving increasingly long prison sentences for working illegally to survive. Globally there are 15 million stateless people.
